College of EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS

Description

This practice may interest regulators who seek additional ways to implant impartiality and objectivity in the review of applicants' paper qualifications.

The College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) combines a number of tactics when reviewing applicants' qualifications, including the following:

  • using easy to understand performance indicators and measurable units to describe the criteria used in assessing the content of an acceptable early childhood educator program
  • structuring its electronic application entry system in a way that requires assessors to complete a checklist on which they record criteria that have or have not been met. These checklists, once completed, are used to inform and validate assessment decisions.
  • appointing lead staff members to cross-check the assessment results multiple times throughout the decision-making process. Each assessment is reviewed by more than one decision-maker
  • maintaining a library of past decisions and assessments which is regularly used and referred to by staff involved in individual assessments

This combined approach ensures quality in the CECE's assessment decisions.
