Providing a clear overview of a complex registration process

Classification: Health

Regulatory Body

College of PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS of Ontario

College of PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS of Ontario

Description

This practice may be of interest to regulators who are experiencing challenges with communicating complex processes involving multiple third parties.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSO) has developed a series of flowcharts for International Medical Graduates (IMGs). IMGs can access a variety of alternate pathways to registration, but often experience challenges navigating information from the seven different national and provincial organizations involved in the complex licensing process for doctors. CPSO's flowcharts provide an overview of the options available to IMGs, based on their current practice location.

This helps applicants develop a general understanding of the process, and identify where they need to go to find out more information about the pathway most relevant to their situation. This practice reduces confusion and frustration for applicants, and allows them to ask more specific and informed questions when they approach the regulator.
