Description

This practice promotes openness about the assessment of qualifications and clarifies the steps available to applicants after their applications are denied.

The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) has implemented strategies that help people whose applications have been denied understand the decisions and the reasons for them. The strategies also inform them about next available steps.

In addition to posting assessment and appeal information in a clear and easily accessed way, the OCT also does the following:

  • Applicants whom the OCT did not certify may attend an information session and/or have individual meetings to discuss their evaluations and find out about next steps.
  • The publication 'OCT Credential Assessment: For Denied Applicants' provides details about how each registration requirement may be met, explains common reasons for denial of certification, and describes options and next steps.
