Description

This practice will interest regulators who wish to clarify for applicants the ways in which assessments are used to determine whether an individual meets competency standards.

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) has created a dedicated section on its website, called "How is Training Completed Outside of Canada Assessed?" This section explains:

  • the roles of the RCDSO and other organizations the applicant should be aware of, such as the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada and the National Dental Examining Board of Canada

  • global differences in dental training

  • the competency standards used to develop curriculum, set criteria, and develop exams and assessments

  • validation methodology for qualification assessments

  • immigration matters and pathways to registration that candidates commonly ask about

The RCDSO provides these explanations as a result of increased feedback from individuals who needed more information about the assessment processes.

RCDSO plans to further develop this section to make it easier to find particular topics.
