Description

This practice allows applicants to participate in a voluntary internship program that offers personalized support to help them meet work experience requirements and network with licensed members of the profession.

The Engineering Internship Program of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is designed to support both domestic and international engineering graduates. It allows participants to benefit from one-on-one mentoring and an annual experience review while they complete their four years of work experience which must include at least one year in Canada.

PEO identifies and trains mentors through its local chapters. Applicants fill out a simple online request, noting their engineering discipline and area of expertise, to facilitate an appropriate match. Mentors guide mentees through the licensing process, help them develop as professionals and support their integration into the engineering community.

The annual experience review helps interns know whether they are on track to meet their experience requirements and to identify in a timely way any deficiencies they need to address during the interning phase.

To make this program as accessible as possible, PEO maintains a modest $75 annual fee. Furthermore, the fee for the first year of the Engineering Internship Program may be waived for new graduates who apply within six months of graduation and for new immigrants who apply within six months of landing in Canada.
