College of MIDWIVES of Ontario

This practice acknowledges a diversity of midwifery backgrounds as well as different professional models and training.

Internationally trained applicants can get into the International Midwifery Pre-Registration Program (IMPP), the only midwifery bridging program in Ontario, with either recognized education or a minimum number of births in the role of midwife.

The College of Midwives of Ontario recognizes the bridging program as meeting academic requirements for licensing. This practice permits applicants from a broad spectrum of midwifery training and experience to have the opportunity to become registered to practise in Ontario.

Before registration, the College prepares an individual supervision plan for each applicant. This plan addresses any deficiencies in numbers of clinical births and additional gaps identified by the IMPP. The plan also designates a supervising midwife.
